Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Absolutely annoying and a bottomless impudence: Original HP953XL ink cartridges are not accepted by the HP OJ Pro 8710 with the latest firmware 2204A. Three full color cartridges go to waste. I can't run my rental business because I can't print anymore. I will never buy an HP machine again.

@uhell, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I see that the printer is not recognizing the HP inks. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

To assist you better, what is the error?

Make sure you are using HP ink cartridges.

Check if the ink cartridges are properly inserted in the printer, you may refer to - Replace HP inkjet printer cartridges

Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Ink cartridge error

Insert the old/alternate ink cartridge(if available) and check if the error persists. If not, then the new one is defective.

If the error persists,

Thanks for your answer!

The problem still exists. The problem is, that HP did a firmware update on  my printer and with this, older cartridges do not work anymore => error message "Older generation cartridge". Yes, my cartridges are older but they are original HP from a value pack and there is no reason why they should not work on my printer.

I trusted HP and I was okay with theses updates. Normally updates bring security and progress but not in this case. It's my printer and my decision whether I use these cartridges from 2020 or not. I do not trust you anymore. The only solution would be an older firmware and then never do an update again.
