Hello @DANIEL689, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Smart Tank 580 printer.
We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.
Follow these steps in order. Use the printer after each step to see if the issue is resolved.
1. Check ink levels and refill tanks
- On the control panel, look for the KYMC and blinking Ink icons.
The Printhead icons might also blink. - If any tank is low, refill it.
2. Check paper and print settings
- Use suitable, clean, wrinkle‑free paper.
- For documents, plain paper with ColorLok works best.
- For photos, use HP Advanced Photo Paper. - Load paper with the correct print side (smooth/glossy) in the right direction for your tray.
- In the app or software, you are printing from, check:
- Paper size and type
- Color / black selection
- Quality settings (use Normal or Best for testing) - Make sure the original document/photo you are copying or printing is clear and high quality.
3. Clean ink smears using the HP app
- Open the HP Smart app and select your printer.
- Go to Settings > Advanced Settings or Settings > View All > Advanced Settings.
- Find Tools or Print Quality Toolbox.
- Run Clean from the Clean Smear tool.
4. Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page
This will show if the printheads or ink delivery are causing the problem.
- On the printer control panel, press and hold the Information button for 5 seconds to enable support mode.
All buttons light up. - For Smart Tank 580, press and hold the Color Copy button for 3 seconds.
A Print Quality Diagnostic Page prints. - Check the page for:
- Missing colors
- Faded areas
- White lines or streaks
- Smears - If you see defects: continue with print‑quality tools (cleaning) in HP Smart or contact HP support about possible printhead replacement. - If there are no defects: the printheads are probably OK; recheck paper, settings, and the document you are copying.
Have a great day!
