Hi

I need some help on how I can fix the print quality from my m283cdw.  I had not been using my printer for a while.  Recently I got new toners, but even after replacing all toners, the print quality is not improving.  What can I do myself to see if the print quality improves.

Hi @HK510,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how frustrating it is when your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw doesn’t deliver the print quality you expect, even after replacing all toners. That moment when you're ready to see crisp, vibrant output and instead get faded or uneven prints can be deeply disappointing.

Let’s walk through the steps to help restore your printer’s performance.

Steps to Fix Poor Print Quality on M283cdw

You can follow the full guide here:

1. Use Genuine HP Toner Cartridges

  • HP recommends using original HP toner for best results.
  • Non-HP or refilled cartridges may cause inconsistent print quality.

2. Check Toner Levels

  • On the printer’s control panel:
Home > Supplies > Toner Levels
  • Even new cartridges can sometimes be defective or improperly installed.

3. Print a Diagnostic Page

  • Go to Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report
  • This helps identify which colors are misbehaving and whether the issue is with toner, fuser, or paper.

4. Run the Cleaning Tool

  • On the control panel:
Setup > Service > Cleaning Page
  • This cleans the fuser and toner path to remove residual toner buildup.

5. Check Paper Type and Quality

  • Use LaserJet-compatible paper only.
  • Avoid inkjet paper, glossy photo paper, or rough-textured sheets.
  • Load paper with the print side facing up in the tray.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for the guide.  I have run all steps you have recommended multiple times, and the printing is still poor.  I bought genuine cartridges only from hp store, toner levels are 100%, but the print quality is not good.

Is there any other solution to try?

Thank you.  Unfortunately calling support did not help as well.  I have replaced cartridges as well but no help.  I see that all but the magenta cartridge is dispensing.

Hi @HK510,

Thank you for getting back and letting me know. We have already tried all the support options available, and at this point, we have reached the maximum troubleshooting we can perform.

Regarding the toner refund, HP support is limited in what we can offer directly. May I know from where the toner was purchased? If it was bought from a store, we recommend checking with the retailer as well, since they may have their own return or exchange policies.

While we cannot promise any refund outcome, let me try to find all possible ways to help. In the meantime, please share the images of the toner showing the expiration dates, along with the printer details, in private so I can review the information and try to assist further.

Please help us with the Printer serial number or the product number in a private message for further assistance.
