Hi @Gigaduckling

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the printer error and appreciate the details you've already shared. Based on the history of a damaged color cartridge, extended inactivity, cleaning the black cartridge with warm water, and the printer now showing a general error and not printing, the issue could be related to cartridge detection, printhead electrical contacts, or a cartridge failure.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Turn the printer on and disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and then to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer on and check if the error clears.

If the error remains:

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the black cartridge.
  3. Inspect the copper-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge for dried ink, residue, or damage.
  4. Using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  5. Allow everything to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridge.

Next, check the cartridge condition:

  1. Reinstall the black cartridge securely.
  2. If the damaged color cartridge is still installed, remove it and inspect it for cracks, ink leakage, or damaged contacts.
  3. Reinsert both cartridges firmly until they click into position.

If the printer continues to show an error:

  1. Print a Printer Status Report from the printer controls if available.
  2. Open the HP App and check whether it reports a cartridge-related error.
  3. Update the printer firmware through the HP App if an update is available.

Because the black cartridge was previously clogged and required cleaning, it is also possible that the cartridge electronics have reached a point where the printer can no longer recognize it correctly. If cleaning the contacts and performing the reset does not clear the error, testing with a new genuine HP black cartridge would help determine whether the issue is cartridge-related.

If the printer's lights are blinking, sharing the blinking light pattern can help identify the specific error condition.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
