Hi @Michelleh1221,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It can be frustrating when a genuine HP ink cartridge, such as the 910 XL black ink, is not recognized by your printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Ensure Proper Cartridge Installation:

  • Open the printer's access door and check if the cartridge is installed correctly in its slot. Make sure the cartridge clicks into place properly.

Contact Points Check:

  • Turn off the printer and remove the cartridge.
  • Inspect the copper-colored contacts for any debris or smudges. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth if necessary, without touching the nozzles to avoid clogs.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date https://support.hp.com/us-en. Outdated firmware can cause recognition issues with newer cartridges.

  • You can check for updates on the printer's control panel or through the printer software on your computer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn the printer on to reset the system.

Verify Cartridges and Printer Compatibility:

  • Cross-check that the 910 XL cartridge is compatible with your specific printer model.

Check for Cartridge Protection Features:

  • Your printer might have a cartridge protection feature enabled that prevents it from using cartridges not assigned to the printer.
  • Refer to your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) to disable any cartridge protection settings.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
