I need an Instant Ink shipment for two printers. I solved my issue via Virtual Chat for one printer. While doing similar progression via Virtual Chat for the 2nd printer, I received a message that my printer is "Not Connected to Instant Ink." My printer and computer are, in fact, connected via ethernet cable all on the same home network, I can print a document from my computer to the printer, and I can "web" connect to my printer from my computer by going to the IP address. I have tried the Virtual Chat process 3 different times, each time hitting the same brick wall. I want to communicate directly with HP / HP Instant Ink via a live chat, but apparently there isn't one, or via e-mail, or even US Postal Service Mail, or telephone (lots of luck on that). Searching for a telephone number or address for support, impossible. Notwithstanding a "link" to "contact HP," one finds oneself in an endless loop back to, e.g., what printer do you have, or some such beginning on line query so as to know where you are to be directed, which usually winds up with the "Virtual Assistant." Help.

Hi @MammothJD,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer is showing “Not Connected to Instant Ink” even though it’s on the same network and printing normally. Let’s go through a few steps to try to resolve this:

Check Instant Ink account registration
Sign in to your HP Instant Ink account online and verify that this printer is listed under your enrolled devices.
If it’s not listed, add the printer using its printer code found on the control panel or in the HP Smart app.

Verify the printer’s web connection
Open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Confirm the printer shows it is connected to the internet and that there are no error messages related to Instant Ink.

Update printer firmware
Make sure the printer firmware is up to date via the control panel or HP Smart app.
Outdated firmware can prevent the printer from communicating with Instant Ink servers.

Sign out and back in on HP Smart
On your computer or mobile device, sign out of HP Smart, then sign back in.
Re-add the printer to ensure it reconnects with the Instant Ink service.

Check network restrictions
Ensure there are no firewall, VPN, or router settings blocking connections to HP Instant Ink servers.
The printer needs open access to HP Instant Ink URLs and ports to verify enrollment.

Reset Instant Ink connection
On the printer, navigate to Settings → HP Instant Ink → Disconnect/Reset.
Then reconnect the printer to Instant Ink using your account credentials.

Print an Instant Ink Status page
This will show the printer’s subscription status and whether it is correctly recognized by HP Instant Ink.

I hope this helps.
