HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e All-in-One Printer

I need to change the country/region setting so the printer will accept HP963XL cartridges instead of HP965XL.

I already went into HP Smart and changed the region, but the printer still won't accept them. Please help.

I notified the moderator of the problem. Some of the new HP printers allow the owner to change the region code without assistance. Look in the users manual for details including how many changes you are allowed. If you have an older printer that does not describe the regionalization process then expand the spoiler below and wait for an agent to help you.

Changing the region code can be difficult as described here.

When an agent contacts you ensure that the agent is familiar with the OS you are using. If the agent is in a different time zone try to get one in your time zone. If that is not possible you may need to choose the best time to make a contact.

I read that only 2, 3 or 4 region changes are allowed. It depends on which AI bot I ask.

You may need WhatsApp to work through the region reset procedure.

In any event you need to do the following:

1. The printer should be connected using a printer USB cable to the computer.
2. You need to have the printer full feature software installed on your computer.
3. You need to have all the cartridges (toners) either from the region/country from where the printer was purchased originally or, the new region/country to which you want to reset it to.
4. The cartridges must be genuine HP.
5. Make sure HP Smart or the HP App is installed.
6. If the printer is not under warranty, then the ink cartridges or toners need to be in the warranty period.

How do I find my printer's region code?

Spoiler

Method 1: Print a Printer Status or Configuration Report
Many HP printers include the region on one of their internal reports.
• Print a Configuration Report or Printer Status Report.
• Look for entries such as:
1. Region
2. Regionalization
3. Country/Region
4. Market
Some models list a numeric region code (such as 1, 2, 3, etc.), while others list a geographic region (North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, etc.).

Method 2: Embedded Web Server (network printers)
If the printer is connected to your network read this.
Some business models display the regional information there.

Method 3: Read the cartridge error
If you receive a message like:
"The indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer."
that usually means the cartridge belongs to a different regional market than the printer.

Hi @AEPOSNER,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you. Please note that HP Printers use different ink cartridges in different regions, and to use the ink cartridges sold in the current region, we need to change the region settings on the printer.

I request that you please get back to me with the following information so that I can help you change the region settings on the printer.

Do you still have the ink cartridges for both regions

Do you have a printer USB cable?

Which OS is on the PC? Is it Windows or Mac?

Do you have the printer's full-feature software and drivers installed on your PC?

Hope this helps!

Hi!

I unfortunately don't have the old cartridges, I threw them out without knowing I'd need them!

I think I have a printer cable somewhere.

windows PC and yes I think I have the software and drivers installed.

Hi @AEPOSNER,

Thank you for confirming those details. Not having the old cartridges is okay. We can still look at the regional reset option, but the printer will need to have a complete set of genuine HP cartridges for the new/current region available before we can proceed.

If you have already purchased the new-region cartridges, please let us know:

  • The cartridge numbers (for example, HP 123/123XL, etc.)
  • Whether you have all required cartridges for the printer
  • Whether they are genuine HP cartridges

Once you confirm that you have the genuine cartridges for the new region, we can guide you through the regional reset procedure using your Windows PC and the printer connection.

Please let us know the cartridge numbers you currently have, and we can take it from there.
