HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

Have recently stopped my subscription to Virtual Ink.  Purchased an HP cartridge. Printer is giving me a message that unless I belong to Virtual Ink, it won't print.

Hi @Donna3764,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you’re using the HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer and recently cancelled your HP Instant Ink (Virtual Ink) subscription. Now, despite installing a new HP cartridge, the printer displays a message that it won't print unless you're enrolled in Instant Ink.

To resume printing:

Step 1: Remove All Instant Ink Cartridges

  1. Open the printer's cartridge access door.
  2. Remove both the black and tri-color Instant Ink cartridges (they usually say "Instant Ink" on the label).
  3. Power off the printer, then power it back on.

Step 2: Install Regular HP Cartridges

  1. Use standard HP 63 or HP 63XL cartridges purchased from a store or online (not labeled Instant Ink).
  2. Make sure they are genuine HP cartridges.
  3. Install both black and color cartridges.

If you're unsure, check the label — it should not say Instant Ink.

Step 3: Reset the Printer (Optional if the issue persists)

  1. Disconnect the power while the printer is on
  2. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in
  3. Power on and try printing again

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
