My HP 6600 printer gave me a message after replacing one colored ink cartridge.  "There is a problem with the printer or ink system.  Turn printer off, then on.  If problem persists, contact HP"      I've done that multiple times.  I've also now replaced all the ink cartridges with brand new HP authentic cartridges.  Any suggestions?

Hi @MickiM,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since you've already replaced all ink cartridges with authentic HP ones and restarted the printer multiple times, try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait at least 5 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Clean the Printhead

  • On your printer's menu, look for a “Clean Printhead” option and run it.
  • If your printer does not have this option, try manually cleaning the printhead:
    1. Remove the ink cartridges.
    2. Locate the printhead and gently wipe its nozzles with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
    3. Let it dry for a few minutes before reinserting it.

Reseat the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the ink cartridge door and remove each cartridge.
  • Reinsert them one by one, ensuring they click into place properly.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Visit HP's support website and check if there's a firmware update for your printer model.

Hard Reset the Printer

  • Remove all ink cartridges and leave the printer on.
  • Unplug the power cord while the printer is still on.
  • Wait 10 minutes, then plug the power cord back in.
  • Once the printer prompts for ink, reinstall the cartridges.

Inspect the Printhead for Clogs or Damage

  • If the error persists, the printhead may be clogged or failing.
  • Some HP OfficeJet 6600 models have removable printheads. If yours does, try soaking it in warm distilled water for 10 minutes, then dry and reinstall.

Check for Ink System Errors

  • If the issue started after replacing one cartridge, one of the new ones could be faulty.
  • Try reinstalling the old cartridges (if available) and see if the error goes away.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
