The remanufactured ink cartridges are not working. I've tried all the steps. I've used remanufactured ink before and this has never happened

Hi @CherBear21,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Thanks for clarifying. If your remanufactured ink cartridges suddenly stopped working even though they’ve worked fine before, there are a few likely causes:

HP periodically releases firmware updates that prevent remanufactured or third‑party cartridges from being recognized.

If your printer updated recently, this could explain why they no longer work.

Remanufactured cartridges rely on reprogrammed chips. If the chip isn’t updated to match the latest firmware, the printer will reject it.

Reset printer to defaults

Sometimes clearing the printer’s settings can help it re‑detect cartridges.

Refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.

If your printer was previously enrolled in HP Instant Ink, it may still be locked to subscription cartridges.

Removing the printer from the Instant Ink account and using standard retail cartridges is necessary.

To confirm whether the issue is firmware‑related or cartridge‑related, try genuine HP cartridges. If they work, the problem is compatibility with remanufactured ones.

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,
