Hi @GMBDH
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is not printing in color, there are a few things you can check to diagnose and resolve the issue. It sounds like you're subscribed to an ink replacement service but haven't received your color cartridges yet, so this could be the cause of the problem. Let’s go through the possible causes and solutions:
1. Check Ink Levels
- Even if you're subscribed to an ink replacement service (like HP Instant Ink), the color cartridges may not have been delivered yet, or they could be empty.
- Check the ink levels for both your color and black cartridges. On most HP printers, you can check the ink levels via the printer’s control panel or through the HP Smart App or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
To check ink levels on the printer:
- On the printer’s display screen, look for an option like "Ink Levels" or "Estimated Ink Levels".
To check ink levels using HP Smart (on a computer or mobile):
- Open the HP Smart App.
- Select your printer and go to "Printer Settings" or "Ink Levels".
If the color cartridges are empty or low, this would explain why your printer is not printing in color. Since you mentioned you haven’t received the color cartridges yet, this could be the issue.
2. Check if Color Cartridges are Installed
- Make sure that the color ink cartridges are installed correctly in the printer. Sometimes, printers will not print in color if the cartridges are not seated properly or if there is a contact issue between the printer and the cartridges.
Steps to check cartridge installation:
- Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
- Remove the color cartridges (if installed) and carefully check for any physical damage or debris on the contacts.
- Reinstall the cartridges firmly into their slots and make sure they are seated properly.
If you do not have color cartridges installed and haven’t received them through the ink replacement service, you will need to get those cartridges to print in color.
3. Verify Printer Settings
- Check if your printer is set to print in black and white or grayscale by default. If this setting is enabled, the printer will not print in color even if color ink is available.
To check and adjust the print settings:
- Open the document you want to print and go to the Print dialog box.
- Check if there’s an option to choose Color or Black and White. Make sure Color is selected.
- On some printers, you may also have to go to Printer Preferences or Properties to set the print mode to Color.
4. Check for Software or Driver Issues
- Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause printing issues, including the inability to print in color.
To update drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website for your printer model.
- Download and install the latest drivers and software for your printer.
- Once installed, restart the printer and try printing again
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
