Scanning the printed test page after startup also works with the HP psc 1300.

I get this on my Officejet Pro 8000.

The magenta cartridge ran out, so I installed a new one.  Proper HP Cartridge.

Still no magenta.  I went through troubleshooting, and now it still doesn't print magenta, and gives me a test page every time I switch on.  It is just a printer, so I can't scan anything to align.

The manual and troubleshooting are useless - help!

The page here has buried the following in the Windows, Solution 6 part: to print a diagnostic page turn on the printer, then press and hold the power button.  While holding the power button press and release the cancel (X) button once, then release the power button.

The page is an alignment page.  It will print at power on if the alignment has failed, either due to a faulty cartridge or a problem with the sensor.  Make sure you are printing the alignment page on clean white paper and that the cartridges are working properly.  See page 16 of the manual here.
