My printer has had issues for many years when I have to install a new print cartridge.
This incident is the worst it has ever been.
Originally, it would not recognize that I had installed a new cartridge. Now it recognizes the new cartridge, but it prints blank pages (print and copy)
Can someone please help me with this? My job is being held up because of this issue.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi @Ladibug340 ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand that dealing with printer issues can be frustrating, especially when it impacts your work. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem with your HP Officejet 4500 Desktop All-In-One Printer:
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure that the new cartridge is properly installed. Make sure it is securely in place and that you've removed any protective tapes or seals.
Run Print Head Cleaning:
- Most printers have a utility for cleaning the print heads. Go to your printer's software on your computer, find the maintenance or tools section, and look for an option to clean the print heads. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Alignment:
- After installing a new cartridge, printers often require an alignment process. Check your printer software for an alignment option and run it.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can download the latest drivers from the official HP website.
Restart Printer and Computer:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues between the printer and the computer. Turn off both the printer and the computer, wait a few minutes, and then turn them back on.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Visit the HP website to see if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve printing issues.
Test with a Different Document:
- Try printing different types of documents to see if the issue persists. It could be specific to one document or file format.
Inspect for Clogged Nozzles:
- If the printer has not been used for a while, the ink nozzles may be clogged. Consult your printer manual for instructions on how to clean the print heads or nozzles.
Check Ink Levels:
- Ensure that the ink levels in the new cartridge are sufficient. Low ink levels can sometimes cause printing issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-

Gary,
Thank you so much for reaching out to me. I really appreciate you!
Unfortunately, I have done all the things you suggested and none of them worked. I bought this printer when they first came out on the market, so It obviously is very old. For the most part it was a good printer, but some years ago it started to fail in little way I was able to fix.
I agree that a printer should outlast time itself (LOL) but this one has not. It has caused me so much frustration so many times I have decided to switch to a Brother Printer. At this point, I really don't want to ever have to deal with HP again, and I will suggest to others NOT to get an HP.
You have a very Merry Christmas!
