Hi @RitaT4,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP Envy 5530 printer starts printing large blobs of color in the middle of a print job, especially when printing from your phone, it could be due to several reasons such as corrupted print data, connectivity issues, or printer hardware problems. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Restart Printer and Phone

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your phone to ensure there are no temporary glitches affecting the print job.

2. Update Printer Firmware

Outdated printer firmware can cause various issues, including printing problems.

  • Update Firmware:
    • Go to the HP Support website and check for any firmware updates for your HP Envy 5530.
    • Follow the instructions to update the firmware.

3. Update Printer Drivers and Mobile App

Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your phone and any printing apps are up to date.

  • Update Mobile App:
    • If you are using the HP Smart app or any other printing app, go to your app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) and check for updates.

4. Check Print Settings

  • Before printing, check the print settings on your phone to ensure they match your printing requirements (e.g., paper size, print quality, etc.).

5. Clean Print Heads

  • From the printer control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • Follow the instructions to clean the print heads.

6. Check Ink Cartridges

Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and not leaking or clogged.

  • Inspect Ink Cartridges:
    • Turn off the printer and open the cartridge compartment.
    • Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any signs of damage or leaks.
    • Reinstall the cartridges securely.

7. Test Print from Another Device

Determine if the issue is specific to your phone or affects other devices as well.

  • Print from Another Device:
    • Try printing from another device, such as a computer or tablet, to see if the problem persists.

8. Check for Network Issues

  • Verify Network Connection:
    • Ensure that both your phone and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
    • Restart your router to rule out any network issues.

9. Perform a Factory Reset

A factory reset can sometimes resolve persistent issues by restoring the printer to its default settings.

  • Factory Reset:
    • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Restore Defaults.
    • Follow the prompts to reset the printer to its factory settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
