My printer quality is not printing the way it should. It is only printing browns, reds, oranges and not the usual black or dark colors. I have reset the printer quality several times and cleaned out the cartridges and nothing is helping.

Hey @Diana1122,

Thank you for providing the details.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 series printer is experiencing print quality issues, such as failing to print black or dark colors and only printing browns, reds, and oranges, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. Consider replacing non-genuine cartridges with genuine ones.

Check Ink Levels: Check the estimated ink levels from the printer control panel or the HP Smart app. If any cartridges are critically low or empty, replace them with new HP cartridges.

Clean the Printhead: Use the automated tool from the printer control panel to clean the printhead. This might need to be done several times to restore print quality.

  • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead, and then touch Continue. Examine the test page after the cleaning is done and repeat if necessary.

Check Ink Cartridge and Prints Settings:

  • Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any obstructions that may affect ink flow. Use a pin or paper clip to clear any debris from the cartridge vents.
  • Check your print settings to make sure the color, paper type, paper size, and quality settings are correct for your print job.

Align the Printhead:

  • On the printer control panel, open the Setup menu, then touch Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  • Select Align Printhead to resolve alignment issues that may affect print quality.

Also, you may refer to this guide: HP OfficeJet 6900, 8010, 8020, 8030 printers - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issue...

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
