Hi @CPSD2
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is leaving black smudge marks on the left side of your prints, here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Check the Ink Cartridges:
- Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and not leaking. Remove them and inspect for any signs of leakage or damage.
Clean the Printhead:
- Use the printer's built-in maintenance tools to clean the printhead. This option is typically found in the printer settings or maintenance menu.
- You can also manually clean the printhead by following the manufacturer’s instructions, usually involving a lint-free cloth and some distilled water.
Inspect the Paper Path:
- Check the printer's paper path for any obstructions, dust, or debris that might be causing the smudging. Remove any foreign objects you find.
Test Different Paper Types:
- Sometimes, the type of paper can affect print quality. Try using a different type of paper to see if the issue persists.
Run a Test Print:
- Print a test page or a cleaning page to see if the smudging continues. This can help determine if the issue is related to a specific document or the printer itself.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Visit the manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers for your printer model.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating firmware can sometimes resolve printing issues.
Inspect the Drum Unit (if applicable):
- If your printer uses a separate drum unit, check it for damage or wear. A worn drum can lead to smudging.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
