Hi @Licort,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP LaserJet M209dw is not recognizing the toner cartridge despite being installed correctly, here are some steps you can try.

  • Check the Cartridge: Make sure the new toner cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, a cartridge may appear similar but isn’t fully compatible.
  • Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the toner cartridge and gently shake it from side to side to distribute the toner evenly. Reinsert it firmly into the printer to ensure it’s seated correctly.
  • Clean the Contacts: There are small metal contacts on the toner cartridge and inside the printer where the cartridge connects. Gently clean these contacts with a soft, dry cloth. Be careful not to touch the contacts with your fingers.
  • Check for Packaging Material: Ensure that any protective tape or packaging material has been removed from the toner cartridge. Sometimes, there is a protective strip that needs to be removed before installation.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes a reset can resolve recognition issues.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix compatibility issues with toner cartridges.
  • Try a Different Cartridge: If possible, try using another toner cartridge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
