I've been trying to print something, but the only colors my printer will print is blue and yellow. No pink hues will come out. I clean the printhead, colors using pink print, but a bit streaky. Upon following it up with a print quality report, it either prints very little pink or none at all. Then, when printing the photos, they come out in blue and yellow.

Hi @Phantombrainz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your printer is having trouble producing pink hues, which typically involves issues with the magenta ink. Here’s a detailed approach to troubleshooting and resolving the issue:
1. Check Ink Levels
- Inspect Ink Cartridges: Ensure the magenta ink cartridge is not empty or low. Replace it if necessary. Sometimes, even if a cartridge isn’t completely empty, it might not be supplying ink properly.
- Verify Installation: Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and seated firmly.
2. Perform Printhead Cleaning
- Automatic Cleaning: Use the printer’s built-in cleaning function:
- Go to your printer settings on your computer or the printer’s control panel.
- Find the option for printhead cleaning or maintenance.
- Follow the prompts to perform a standard cleaning cycle.
- Deep Cleaning: If the standard cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, consider performing a deep cleaning cycle if your printer has that option. Note that deep cleaning uses more ink.
3. Printhead Alignment
- Align Printheads: Sometimes misalignment can cause color issues:
- In your printer settings, find the option to align printheads.
- Follow the instructions to perform the alignment process.
4. Check for Clogged Nozzles
- Nozzle Check: Print a nozzle check pattern (often available through the printer’s settings). This can show if there are any clogged nozzles in the printhead.
- Manual Cleaning: If you see gaps in the magenta part of the nozzle check pattern, you might need to manually clean the printhead:
- Carefully remove the printhead if your printer model allows it.
- Use a lint-free cloth and a small amount of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the nozzles. Be cautious not to damage the printhead.
5. Replace Magenta Cartridge
- Try a New Cartridge: If cleaning and alignment don’t help, try replacing the magenta ink cartridge with a new one, even if the current one seems to have ink. Sometimes cartridges can be faulty.
6. Check for Firmware or Software Updates
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check the HP website for any available updates.
- Update Printer Drivers: Make sure your printer drivers are up to date on your computer. Sometimes driver issues can affect print quality.
7. Perform a Printhead Test
- Print Quality Report: If you haven’t already, print a quality report or test page from your printer’s settings. This will help diagnose whether the problem is specific to the magenta color or if it’s more widespread.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
