Is there a way to clean the printhead on the 6500A Plus using the HP Smart App?
After searching the database others have indicated the availability of the 'Printer Settings' tile in the app, however it doesn't show up on the version I'm using.
The printer touchscreen no longer works to use it for cleaning the printhead.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart App and see if that helps. More about the App here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1716406-1413451-16
You can also clean the printhead manually: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03946666
Let me know if this helps.
If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution button, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Thanks for for the reply Betty!
I was able to get the app to work on my wife's iPad, but it still didn't resolve the issue. I will try to clean the print head manually today since we are down to it being a last resort it seems.
Is a new printhead available for the HP6500 A? It's approximately 10 years old but has been used very little over it's lifetime, < 1000 documents printed or copied.
Regards....

I manually cleaned the printhead yesterday and now get a message - 'Used cartridges might not complete printhead start-up. Install new cartridges or touch OK to continue'. The OK button is on the part of the touchscreen that no longer functions. Any suggestion on how to get around it?

Let's try to reset the Printer here:
Reset the product
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.
And also try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Thanks for the suggestions Betty.
I tried to reset it, but no luck. Also did the firmware update...and reset it again, just in case. Still no luck, as the 'used ink cartridges might not complete printhead startup. Install new cartridges, or touch Ok to continue with used ones' message persists.
Like I said before I can't clear it on the touchscreen because it no longer works in the area of the screen where the OK button is located. Time to buy a new printer?

I don't have new ink cartridges on-hand, and I'm not going to buy new cartridges mostly because the existing ones are less than a month old (...the week before my first post here). And because I'm not sure the printhead is going to work after cleaning it manually, as I'm not confident I was able to clear it completely.
If the only option is to invest in new ink, and possibly a new printhead...I'll purchase a new printer instead.
Thanks for your help!
