Please read this post and then provide some details.  What printer model? What cartridge numbers?  How far beyond the expiration date are they?

The answer will really depend on the printer model and cartridges.

The printer is a HP Envy 6055E, with HP 67xl ink cartridges. Expired May 2023 .

The HP 67XL cartridges should be fine.  They should be stored upright, as they would be hanging on a store display hook.  If they are lying on their side for an extended time one of the colors may fail to print.
