Hi @Erin008,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you installed two brand new ink cartridges but your printer still does not read them and will not print. When cartridges are not recognized, it usually means the printer is not detecting the cartridge communication properly. Let us go through steps that align with the official HP guidance for this type of issue.

Please try the following:

Step 1: Confirm cartridge compatibility

Make sure the ink cartridges are the correct ones for your specific printer model. If incompatible cartridges are installed, the printer will not recognize them.

Step 2: Remove protective tape

Remove the cartridges from the printer and ensure all protective tape and packaging has been completely removed from the cartridges’ copper contacts and ink nozzles. Even a small piece of tape left behind can prevent the printer from detecting the cartridge.

Step 3: Reinstall the cartridges

Turn the printer on.
Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop.
Reinsert both cartridges firmly until they click into place.
Close the access door and check if the printer recognizes them.

Step 4: Clean the cartridge contacts

Turn the printer off and unplug it from the wall.
Remove the cartridges.
Using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridges. If accessible, also gently clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
Allow everything to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Step 5: Reset the printer

With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
Unplug it from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug it directly back into a wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
Turn the printer on and check again.
Resetting the printer may help recover from errors or failures related to cartridge detection.

Please let us know:

Is any light blinking on the printer
Are you seeing any specific error message or error code on the printer display
What is the exact printer model number

This information will help us guide you more accurately.

We will take it one step at a time with you.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a blissful day 😇.
