Hello

A friend just gave me an almost new printer, which he previously used with the instant ink service.

It came with instant ink cartridges in but when I linked up the printer to my wifi network and linked my laptop to it, it says cartridges can't be used until printer is enrolled with HP instant ink.

So I thought I would just create my own instant ink account and start afresh with new subscription cartridges but when it gets to the part in the process where it asks you to give the printer's unique ID address, it says the printer is already registered to another instant ink account (obviously my friends). How do I go about deregistering the printer from my friend's account so I can start using it? Is there a way to restore factory settings for example?

Thank you in anticipation of your help!

@LJBull, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are trying to re-register the printer in Instant Ink. For this, the previous owner has to delete this printer from his account.

Once done, restart the web services on the printer to get a new claim code.

Click here to know how to turn off web services. Refer to this document to know how to turn it on.

For assistance with enrollment, refer to - Enrolling in HP Instant Ink

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Hi community!

Unfortunately, if your printer is linked to another instant ink account, you will not be able to re-register it under a new account. What you need to do is cancel the previous account and after that you will be able to register the printer again with your data.

In the following link you will find information on how to cancel your instant ink account:
