Hi @peterrk1,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Smart Tank 7005 is not printing, and the ink icons are flashing. Let’s go through steps to resolve this issue.

1. Check Ink Levels and Cartridges

Open the printer’s top cover and verify all ink tanks.

Make sure the ink bottles are installed correctly and the caps are properly closed.

If any ink tank is empty or low, refill it with the correct HP ink bottle.

The printer may not print if any tank is critically low or empty.

2. Reset the Ink System

Power off the printer.

Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

This can reset the ink sensors and clear false alerts.

3. Check for Air Bubbles in Ink Lines

Sometimes air bubbles prevent proper ink flow.

Gently shake the ink bottles before filling.

After refilling, the printer may prompt you to prime the ink system — follow the on-screen instructions to allow ink to flow properly.

4. Clean Printhead / Run Printer Maintenance

From the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app, run Printhead Cleaning or Clean Cartridges.

This helps if the printer cannot draw ink properly from the tanks.

5. Check for Error Messages

On the printer display, check for any messages or blinking patterns.

Follow the instructions shown on the screen — often the flashing ink icon indicates a specific tank requires attention.

6. Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and power it on.

This can clear temporary errors and restore normal printing.

7. Test Print

Print a Test Page or Printer Status Page from the control panel.

If the icons stop flashing and the page prints, the issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Kuroi. I  had checked the ink levels (about half full) and turned the printer of for 60 seconds, but what seemed to work was disconnecting the power for ten minutes. Then I noticed your message which was also very helpful.
