Purchased a Smart Tank 7035 today, managed to reach the stage where I can print but the alignment is non-existent? The test patterns are not clear, it's as though ink is only partially reaching the paper. I printed a single page document, the sentence alignment, of those sentences that actually appeared was all over the place.

the system set up so I think the printer heads are correctly installed.

Any thoughts or advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Hi @Old70-chap

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Experiencing with your new HP Smart Tank 7035 printer is not properly delivering ink to the page, even though the setup completed. Its misaligned text, incomplete test patterns, and missing portions of sentences,

I would request you to please follow the steps:

Check Ink Flow

  • Look at each ink tank — make sure they’re filled to the recommended level.
  • On top of each tank, there’s a small vent tab or cap. Make sure it’s open so air can flow; if it’s closed, ink won’t move properly.
  • If you suspect air bubbles, gently remove the cartridge and put it back in firmly. This helps the ink settle.

Run Alignment and Cleaning Cycles

  • Turn on your printer.
  • On the printer’s screen, look for Settings or open the HP Smart app on your computer/phone.
  • Find Printer Maintenance (sometimes called “Tools” or “Setup”).
  • Tap Align Printhead → the printer will print a test page.
  • Next, choose Clean Printhead.
  • Start with Normal Cleaning.
  • If the print still looks bad, run Deep Cleaning.
  • After each cleaning, print a Diagnostic Page (usually an option in the same menu) to check if colors are clear and aligned.

Reinstall Printheads

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer cover where the printheads sit.
  • Carefully lift the latch and remove the printheads.
  • Check that the copper contacts (shiny parts) are clean and not blocked.
  • Place the printheads back in their slots, making sure they click into place.
  • Close the latch, shut the cover, and turn the printer back on.
  • Run Align Printhead again from the menu.
