Streaky Colour Printing with Officejet Pro 6978

When printing anything in colour, the pages are streaked with both horizontal and vertical lines.  The colours are grainy and seem to be mixed up a little (Ex. something that should be all yellow will have specs of other colour in it).  I performed the cleaning option multiple times and aligned the printheads.  The colour ink cartridges have only been used a few times, all with the same effect.  When I tried cleaning my print heads again, I was given a warning to make sure I have back up cartridges ready for when the ink gets low.  I checked my ink levels and they indeed showed up as being low, which seems crazy because I just bought the cartridge from Staples and have printed no more than 10 pages in colour (5 of which were the cleaning and alignment pages).  I am feeling frustrated with this product.  Please help.
