Hi @GeorgiaBL

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue—when a cartridge shows full but isn’t recognized or stops printing, it can feel like you're chasing shadows.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help resolve the supply system problem with your magenta ink on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.

Step-by-Step Fix for Magenta Ink Not Reading

1. Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer
  • Unplug it from the wall and wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in and power it on

This helps clear temporary memory glitches that may misread cartridge status.

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Open the cartridge access door
  • Remove the magenta cartridge
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol
  • Gently clean the copper contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer
  • Let it dry, then reinsert the cartridge

3. Try a Different Magenta Cartridge

Even if it’s new, a faulty chip or seal can cause detection issues. If available, try:

  • A second HP 952XL Magenta cartridge
  • Avoid refilled or third-party cartridges during troubleshooting

4. Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can miscommunicate with newer cartridges. You can update it here:

Download the latest firmware for Windows 11 and install it with the printer powered on and connected.

5. Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.

Let me know how it goes or if you'd like help walking through any of these steps. We’ll get that magenta flowing again.
