Dear CD222, I am so grateful you took the time to post this "fix" Thank you so very much ! I did it twice because after turning the printer off and then the first time, I didnt wait a couple of minuets for the software to install. Thank you again !

CD222, thank you so much for the info on fixing the supply problem that HP made for us. I followed your directions and my printer shows the firmware was reset to the previous version, but I am still getting the supply error. Any thoughts on how to fix this, or what am I missing? I did directly plug my computer to the printer and it showed the firmware downgrade as complete, but I'm still getting the same message. If anyone has any advice, I would love it. I'm about to toss this printer in the yard and beat with a bat!

Does the error message on the printer show a question mark (?) on all four cartridges? IF NOT, then you really do have a bad cartridge. If so, try restarting the printer, or re-running the firmware updater. It may also be that your model of printer and the firmware updater are incompatible. I wish I could be of more help.

Yes, I am still getting the question mark on all four cartridges. This is the weird one for me right now. I have been using the original blue, cyan and magenta HP cartridges from when I first bought the printer. The black is a different brand that has been working fine until this firmware update that messed everyone up.
Before finding this fix, I thought I had a bad cartridge, so i replaced all three of my colors and left the black one. That made all four cartridges generic. This didn't fix it. I have run the firmware update several times, and it shows that it is the older June version that it is supposed to be. When this wasn't working, I decided to put the original HP blue, cyan and magenta back in along with the generic black. The printer works now, but says I'm low on the three colors. Which I probably am. If I switch any of the colors to the generic, I get the question mark problem. The colors are the same brand and same box as the generic black one that is working.
I am no wiz at any of this, and am stumped. Anyone have any thoughts on how to get the generic colors to work?

Hi
My HP M254dw did the exact same thing post "firmware update" -> "Supplies problem" was triggered - and thus no printing.
Following the steps provided and locating the correct FW version from June (20200612) fixed it (USB cable required to push FW from laptop to printer).
[content removed]was link for PC - M254dw firmware June 2020 (~ 32Mbytes).
This is a lifesaver - many thanks
