I haven't had my printer for one good year, yet I am having problems with the printhead issues. Despite the fact that I replaced the printhead cartridges and cleaned the printer, it still will not work.

Hi @rtjaks77
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 6001 is experiencing persistent printhead issues despite replacing the cartridges and cleaning the printer.
Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊 Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Perform a Power Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds, then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
2. Clean the Printheads
- Use the printer’s built-in cleaning utility:
- Access the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart App.
- Navigate to Settings > Maintenance > Clean Printheads.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to perform a deep cleaning.
3. Check for Firmware Updates
- Visit the HP Support website to check for firmware updates for your printer. Updating the firmware can resolve known issues and improve performance.
4. Inspect the Printhead Installation
- Remove the printheads and inspect them for any damage or debris.
- Ensure they are securely seated in their respective slots and that the protective tape has been removed.
5. Restore Factory Defaults
- Reset the printer to factory settings:
- Access the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart App.
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.

I purchased the HP 6001 in November 2024 at Staples. Had constant printhead problems. In March 2025 it completely stopped printing. Staples exchange it for a new one, today, after two weeks of use, I have the same issue as with the first one.
Junk!!!!
