@Guyavihod, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is incorrectly identifying your original HP ink cartridges as continuous ink cartridges, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Make sure you are using the correct HP ink cartridges for your printer model. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 typically uses HP 952, 952XL, or 956XL ink cartridges. Double-check the cartridge number to confirm compatibility.

Inspect and Reinstall Ink Cartridges:

  • Remove all ink cartridges from the printer.
  • Check for any protective tape remaining on the cartridges and ensure they are clean.
  • Reinstall the cartridges one by one, ensuring each is firmly in place.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Power off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn on the printer. This can reset any minor errors.

Firmware Update:

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer by visiting the HP Support Page.
  • Install any updates that might be available to ensure your printer software is up-to-date.

Hard Reset:

  • Perform a hard reset on the printer. Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait for at least 60 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and the printer.

Check for Printer Errors:

  • If the issue persists, check the printer control panel for any specific error messages or codes.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
