HP DeskJet 2823e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I bought third-party cartridges, but the printer blocks them. Impossible to use it; even though the cartridges protection is deactivated, there is an error message that I can't delete.

Please, help me to unlock that protection so that I can use the cartridges I wish, even non HP ones.

It is not a good practice; if I had knew that, I would not have bought an HP printer.

Kind regards and thanks for helping.

Yohann

It sounds like your supplier will do the right thing, I would expect that if they want the cartridges back they will refund or replace the cartridges.

There are some test pages where the printer will print black using a mixture of the black and color inks, so that the page will print (and be readable) even if black or one or more colors are not working.

What exactly is the error message?  If the printer is indicating one or more of the cartridges are protected, you will need to contact your dealer for a replacement cartridge.

When protection is enabled in the printer, it means the cartridges will be electronically marked to prevent the cartridges from being used in a different printer.  Turning off cartridge protection will result in new cartridges not being marked as private for your printed only, but the printer will always check to see if it was marked in a different printer.

If your supplier is refilling cartridges that have been marked as protected they will not work in your printer.  At that point you would need to return them to the supplier for a replacement. If your supplier does not check cartridges as being not protected before refilling them I would suggest you find a new supplier....

Hello Bob,

Thank you for replying.

If I translate the message git in my HP account:

Black The indicated cartridges have been identified as used or counterfeit. HP+ printers require genuine HP cartridges. Replace non-genuine cartridges to continue printing.Black The indicated cartridges have been identified as used or counterfeit. HP+ printers require genuine HP cartridges. The fact is the cartridge protection is not active. So, the issue shall come from somewhere else...

We already used cartridges from that supplier in a Brother printer without any issue.

It is a little frustrating...

Thanks anyway

You say "The fact is the cartridge protection is not active. So, the issue shall come from somewhere else...".

That is not quite correct.  If you turn off Cartridge Protection for your printer it will no longer mark newly inserted cartridges as "protected", BUT IT STILL CHECKS THE CARTRIDGES TO SEE IF THEY HAVE PREVIOUSLY BEEN MARKED AS PROTECTED IN A PREVIOUS PRINTER.  CARTRIDGES THAT WERE PROTECTED IN A PREVIOUS PRINTER WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

If your supplier is refilling cartridges but does not check to see if the cartridges are protected your are going to have poor results.  If you are lucky you may find some that work, others will not, depending on whether the original cartridges were used in a printer with cartridge protection enabled.  I suggest you take this issue up with your supplier.  Do they have any warranty on the cartridges they supply?

Morning Bob,

Ok, I understand, I will suggest them that point. By the way they propose me to send them the cartridges back.

One strange thing: the printer refuses the cartridge but when I long push the cancel button, it prints in black the state report... It's really confusing while black is the third-party one...
