OfficeJet Pro 7740

Hello,

I need assistance with a regionalization reset for an HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 (G5J38A).

The printer is located in Belize and previously used genuine HP 954XL cartridges.

The printer's main logic board recently failed and was replaced with an HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 replacement board (G5J38-60189). After the replacement, the printer now reports that the installed HP 954XL cartridges are incompatible and identifies 953 / 953XL / 957XL as the supported cartridges.

I need the replacement board regionalized to the Latin America / HP 954/954XL region.

I am using Windows 11. The full-feature HP printer software is installed, the printer is connected, and I have already successfully opened the Set New Region support window containing fields 41–45 and 51.

I can provide the Copy to Clipboard information and printer details through private message.

Could an HP Support Agent please assist me with generating the regionalization reset code?

Thank you.

Hi @Marco690,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for providing the printer model, product number, location, cartridge information, and the details regarding the replacement logic board.

A regionalization reset is intended for situations where an HP printer has been physically moved from one geographic region to another and therefore needs to be changed to the cartridge region applicable to its new location. In your case, however, the printer has not simply been moved to another region. The main logic board was replaced, and the replacement board is now identifying a different cartridge region.

Because the replacement board is reporting 953/953XL/957XL cartridges as supported, while the printer is located in Belize and was previously configured for the 954/954XL cartridge region, this points to the replacement board being configured for a different regional version of the printer.

The 953/953XL/957XL cartridges are associated with the Europe/EMEA regional configuration, whereas the 954/954XL configuration is used for the Latin America region. Therefore, I would not recommend proceeding with a regionalization reset code as the solution to this particular situation.

What I recommend
Please contact the point of service or HP-authorized service location that replaced the logic board and explain that:

  • The original board was replaced.
  • The printer is located in Belize
  • The printer previously used genuine HP 954XL cartridges.
  • The replacement board is detecting/supporting 953/953XL/957XL cartridges instead.
  • The printer therefore appears to have received a board configured for a different regional version.

The service location should verify the replacement board's part/configuration and determine whether the correct Latin America-region replacement board was installed for your OfficeJet Pro 7740.

A regionalization reset should not be used as a workaround for an incorrectly region-configured replacement board. If the replacement board is configured for the European cartridge region, resetting the printer using the normal regionalization process may not resolve the underlying board configuration issue.

If the service center needs to verify the configuration, you can also provide them with the Copy to Clipboard information from the Set New Region window, along with the printer's product and serial information. This can help them determine exactly how the replacement board is currently identifying the printer.

I recommend having the service provider verify the board before purchasing or replacing any additional cartridges, since the cartridge incompatibility you're seeing appears to be directly related to the replacement board configuration.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
