I have an OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One. It printed just fine, then a few days ago, I went to print a single sheet. It proceeded to make an odd noise repeatedly, then I received a jammed cartridge alert and black ink has now leaked in the corner. How do I fix this? I didn't see anything upon a search that seemed to match this. Thanks.

Hi @MoyFamily,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing could stem from a problem with the printhead, cartridges, or internal mechanisms of the printer. Here's how you can troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue.

Turn Off the Printer

  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds to ensure no residual power remains in the system.

Check for Ink Leaks and Clean

  • Open the printer and carefully inspect the area where the cartridges are installed.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to clean any visible ink spills. Avoid touching the electrical contacts or nozzles directly with your fingers.

Remove and Inspect Cartridges

  • Remove all cartridges from the printer.
  • Check for damage or leaks in the cartridges, especially the black one.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts gently with a lint-free cloth if they are dirty.

Inspect the Cartridge Slot

  • Check the cartridge slots for any foreign objects or excess ink buildup.
  • Clean the area carefully, but avoid damaging the components.

Check the Printhead

  • If your printer has a removable printhead, take it out and inspect it for damage or clogs.
  • Gently clean the printhead's nozzles with a lint-free cloth dampened with water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.

Inspect for Paper Jams

  • Open the printer's paper path and inspect for any pieces of paper or debris that could be causing the "jammed cartridge" alert.
  • Remove any debris carefully to avoid damaging the rollers or sensors.

Reinstall Cartridges and Power On

  • Reinsert the cartridges securely into their slots.
  • Close all printer doors and reconnect the printer to the power source.
  • Turn the printer on and check if the issue persists.

Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Use the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app to run a self-test or diagnostic.
  • If errors appear, follow the prompts to resolve them.

Perform a Firmware Update

  • Check if your printer’s firmware is up to date by using the HP website or HP Smart app. Update if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Upon cleaning the printer of spilled ink, I found a small plastic gear that was sitting unattached and has a crack in it. how do I get this fixed? Thanks.

Hi @MoyFamily, Thank you for your response.

Since you found a cracked plastic gear inside the printer, this could be the root cause of the issue. A broken gear can disrupt the internal mechanisms, leading to printhead misalignment, paper feed problems, or even error messages related to cartridge movement.

1. Identify the Gear's Location

  • Compare the gear with the existing ones in the printer.
  • Check the service manual (if available) for a diagram of internal components.
  • Look for missing or misaligned gears inside the printer.

2. Assess the Damage

  • If the crack is minor, the gear might still function, but if it’s completely broken, it needs replacement.
  • Try to determine if the gear is part of the print carriage, paper feed rollers, or another mechanism.

3. Temporary Fix (If Replacement is Not Immediately Available)

  • If the crack is small, use super glue or epoxy to temporarily fix the gear.
  • Ensure it is completely dry before reassembling.
  • If necessary, use a zip tie or small clamp to hold the repair in place while drying.

4. Order a Replacement Part

  • Check HP’s official parts store for a compatible replacement.
  • If the part number is unavailable, measure the gear and look for generic printer gears.

5. Disassemble and Replace the Gear

  • Refer to a service manual specific to your printer model.
  • Use proper tools (small screwdrivers, tweezers) to carefully remove the damaged gear.
  • Install the new gear and ensure it moves freely.

6. Reset the Printer and Test

  • Reassemble the printer.
  • Perform a hard reset (disconnect power for a few minutes).
  • Run a diagnostic print test to check for any movement issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
