Hello,

I'm trying to check if my printer is working on Economode but can't find the setting anywhere (I went through all of the menus on the printer and didn't find any, nor in the HP Utility App) The manual does claim that the HP Utility for OSX has a setting called "Economode & Toner Density" but the option is nowhere to be found. Is there any other way to get to the density setting?

I'm on a macbook pro and my printer is connected via USB cable.

Help would be much much appreciated.

Thanks,

Karina

Finally found the option. It was not my computer and it was not the driver. For anybody experiencing the same issue, the density can be modified in the printer panel options under Administration/General Settings/Print Quality/Adjust Color. Mine was set to zero and I was having lots of issues with faded colors on most if not all types of papers.

Have you installed the HP driver or are you using the Apple driver. Apple drivers do not give you all the same options as the HP driver.

How do I check this? I believe I installed the HP Easy Start driver when I first installed the printer but now I'm not absolutely sure.

A look at all the print settings for Catalina does not show an option for Econo mode, only a lower resolution printing. If you go to system preferences  and look at the printer it will look like this if you are using an Apple driver (note the generic PS)

And the HP driver shows the printer model:

I checked all settings but cannot find an Econo-mode, but keep in mind my printer is a 577 MFP not a 553 however the print engine is identical on the two machines however there is a chance that the option might exist on the 553.

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely using the HP driver and according to the manual the option for Economode and Toner Density could be found in HP Utility but as I stated it's not an option I can access. Whatever the case, where would you find the Toner Density Settings in your printer? What I'm really looking for is to increase saturation on color prints and initially thought Economode could be running. I'd like to change the default toner density but can't find the option. Thanks in advance!

In the embedded web server of the printer go to copy/print and adjust color

This is what the web server shows. I've gone through all options here and no Color Adjustment options were found.
