@Jim0507, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue of lines appearing on the side of printed documents, especially after the computer warms up, could be caused by a few different factors:
Possible Causes & Solutions
Dirty or Clogged Printheads
- The printhead may be clogged, causing streaks or lines in prints.
- Solution:
- Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant and run the Printhead Cleaning tool.
- Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page to check for inconsistencies.
Low or Defective Ink Cartridges
- If the ink levels are low or the cartridge is defective, it can result in printing defects.
- Solution:
- Check ink levels from the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app.
- Replace any low or faulty ink cartridges.
- Ensure you are using genuine HP ink.
Paper Issues
- Low-quality or damp paper can cause smudging or lines.
- Solution:
- Use high-quality, dry paper recommended for your printer.
- Store paper in a cool, dry place.
Printer Alignment Issues
- If the printer is misaligned, it can cause streaks or lines.
- Solution:
- Run the Align Printhead tool from the printer menu.
- If available, manually realign using HP Smart.
Internal Hardware Issue (Overheating)
- If this happens only after the computer/printer warms up, there might be an issue with the printer hardware.
- Solution:
- Let the printer cool down and then try printing again.
- Try plugging it into a different power outlet.
- Perform a hard reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from power for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and restart.
Firmware/Driver Issues
- If the printer firmware or drivers are outdated, printing errors may occur.
- Solution:
- Visit HP Support and download the latest firmware/drivers for your printer.
- Uninstall and reinstall the printer software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
