Using all HP cartridges. Already wiped the cartridge head with damp paper towels in case there was dried ink blocking the black ink. Of course the warranty is expired. Of course HP wants me to subscribe to instant ink. If there is no solution, I am throwing this printer away and warning everyone. I will never purchase another HP product in my life.
Why won't the black ink print? Worked until their firmware update. And again, it is their brand black ink cartridge and the printer does recognize it as its own.

Hi @Daisy44444,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration with the printer issue. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the black ink printing problem.
Check Ink Levels:
- Ensure that the black ink cartridge has sufficient ink. You can check the ink levels through the printer software on your computer or directly on the printer's display panel.
Clean Printhead:
- Run the automated printhead cleaning utility from the printer's software or control panel. This can help remove any clogs or dried ink that might be blocking the printhead.
Manual Printhead Cleaning:
- If the automated cleaning doesn't work, you may try manually cleaning the printhead. Refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions on how to do this.
Check for Updates:
- Ensure that your printer firmware and software are up to date. Check HP's official website for any available firmware or driver updates that might address the printing issue.
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Uninstall the printer drivers from your computer and reinstall them. Sometimes, corrupted or outdated drivers can cause printing problems.
Use Genuine HP Cartridges:
- Ensure that you are using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP cartridges or refilled cartridges may not work properly and can lead to printing issues.
Reset Printer:
- Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in. Power it on and check if the issue persists.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
