HP OfficeJet Enterprise Color Flow MFP X585z

I heard a cluck after a job finished printing on my X585.  Error message 61.00.00.  Online said to power down and back on. I did so maybe 3 times, each time the error would return.  Held power button in for 3 seconds, no difference.

I opened the door to the ink cartridges and the tray was in a lowered position.  With the printer off I was able to gently bring the tray up and remove the cartridges.  If I lower the tray by hand, I notice the the left side is slightly lower than the right.

After hearing the clunk, I noticed that the door that the printed paper comes out was open.  After the first power cycle, I was able to easily close that door by hand.  I am long out of warranty so I have nothing to lose.

I found some instructions to address the 61.00.00 error here (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04581810)   but nothing mentioned the ink cartridge tray.  Similar instructions to gain internal access to that ink cartridge tray would be ideal.

What's the sequence to open the printer to gain access to that cartridge "elevator" to see if I can find the source of the clunk?

I'm the OP.  This obviously isn't something that's often encountered.

Let me add something else that I discovered.  First, online it says to go to the printer's address and look at the diagnostics log.  Once the error came up, I couldn't get the the website at the printer's address...

...but I found if I left the print cartridge door open, the initialization would pause prior to giving me the error with a notice that the door was open, and while it was paused, I was able to get to the diagnostic webpage.

These are the more detailed errors that have been encountered in order of frequency:

Connection between formatter and engine lost
General engine failure
Print Bar Lift Stall
SSL failed. Certificate invalid.

Then when I close the door, the initialization continues and the print bar motor turns as if to lift the print bar, then it goes down (gears go the opposite way), then it goes up again, then all the way down and I get the generic 61.00.00 error.  It appears as if the motor is trying to get the cartridges up so they are accessible from the cartridge door but can't.  I don't think the gears should be going in both directions but should just get the cartridges to the top and stay there.  It's as if the weight of the cartridges are all of a sudden too much for the motor.

If any of this gives anyone any ideas, please let me know.

I'm also wondering if it's even worth fixing this printer from 2017 or getting something more modern and in this regard, any suggestions are appreciated.  I just need the same features: color printing and copying, fax, scanning including scan to email, either inkjet or laser is fine.
