@fit426, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP 4650 printing black all over the page!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 4650 printer is experiencing a print quality issue where black ink is covering the entire page with horizontal stripes. This is usually caused by one of the following:
- Clogged or Dirty Printhead – Ink buildup can cause smudging or excessive ink output.
- Cartridge Issues – A defective or leaking black ink cartridge can cause ink overflow.
- Incorrect Printer Settings – If the print density is too high, it might release too much ink.
- Hardware Malfunction – Internal printer components, such as rollers or sensors, could be damaged.
Troubleshooting Steps
1. Check the Ink Cartridges
- Open the printer cover and remove the black ink cartridge.
- Inspect for leaks or excess ink. If the cartridge is damaged, replace it with a new HP 63 Black Ink cartridge.
- Reinstall the cartridge and make sure it clicks into place properly.
2. Clean the Printhead
- On your printer, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Print a test page to check for improvements.
3. Print a Test Page & Align the Printhead
- Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report to print a diagnostic page.
- If the page is unclear, go to Align Printhead and follow the instructions.
4. Use Different Paper & Check Printer Settings
- Try a fresh stack of plain white paper.
- On your computer, go to Printer Properties and ensure the print quality is set to "Normal" or "Draft" instead of "Best."
- Disable "High Ink Usage" settings if available.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait 1–2 minutes before plugging it back in.
- Turn it back on and try printing again.
Let me know if you need more help! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
