black ink not printing, new head and cartridge.   All colors print fine.  It's not even trying to print the black, it just spits out the paper.  When I remove the cartridge there's no ink on the small round internal input screen but if I slap the cartridge on a napkin outside the ink is coming out the hole fine.  It's seems like the cartridge isn't even getting the signal to print like the print command for the black isn't even coming out the pins.

HPF6A02F.  Printer will print colors just fine.  When printing only black or monochrome nothing prints, paper just gets pushed through.  As stated, the black ink is not even being pushed through the input screen, it's like the signal to the solenoid isn't even occurring.  The reason I know this is that the input screens of the other cartridges are the color of the ink but the input screen of the black is still silver as if new.  The cartridge isn't blocked, I can remove it and tap it on a napkin and the ink comes out.  If I run a test print, only colors will show up, no black.  I have run the clean print head functions 2x with no success.

Hi @burmy ,

Thank you for your reply

I understand you are facing an issue with the black ink cartridge or the printhead contact points aren’t properly communicating with the printer’s internal mechanism, even though the cartridge itself is functioning.

Here are a few steps to help troubleshoot this issue:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for at least 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset internal connections and prompt the printer to recognize the cartridge.

Manually Clean the Contacts:

  • Remove the black cartridge and gently clean the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Clean the corresponding contacts in the cartridge slot inside the printer. Be cautious not to leave fibers or excess moisture.

Run a Deep Cleaning Cycle:

  • Run the printer’s deeper cleaning or “Prime” cycle if available. This can sometimes address issues with the ink flow by flushing the printhead.

Inspect the Printhead Alignment:

  • Check if the printer needs a printhead alignment. An unaligned printhead can prevent certain cartridges from operating correctly.

Update Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer firmware is updated. Manufacturers sometimes release updates to fix issues like this, especially when a new cartridge doesn’t work as expected.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • Some models have a "semi-full reset" option. This reset may clear internal memory related to ink flow. Refer to the user manual, or let me know if you need guidance on this.

Refer to this document: HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer series User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
