Hi @Superteck,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I know how frustrating it is when your HP DeskJet 2800e shows a cartridge error, especially when you just want to print and get things done. Let’s go through the most effective recommended steps to clear this error.
Why This Happens
- Cartridge not seated properly.
- Dirty electrical contacts.
- Using non-HP or expired cartridges.
- Firmware or alignment issues.
Recommended Fix
Step 1: Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Make sure you’re using original HP cartridges for the DeskJet 2800e series:
- HP 305 / 305XL (or HP 67 / 67XL in some regions). 👉 support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2405837-1980674-16
Step 2: Reseat Cartridges
- Turn the printer ON.
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove both cartridges.
- Inspect for protective tape, remove if present.
- Reinsert cartridges firmly until they click.
Step 3: Clean Electrical Contacts
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
- Let them dry for 5 minutes before reinserting.
Step 4: Update Firmware
- Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.
- Or use HP app: 👉 HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
Step 5: Reset the Printer
- With the printer ON, unplug the power cord.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug back in and power ON.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
