Hi @haveaquestionX,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw uses color toner for all printing jobs, including black and white. Here’s why.
- Single-Sided Printing: When you print black and white on the MFP M283fdw, the printer still uses all the toner cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow) because the printer’s internal mechanism requires all cartridges to be operational for it to print correctly, even if only one color (black) is being used.
- Duplex Printing: The situation is similar for duplex (double-sided) printing. Even though you’re printing black and white on both sides of the page, the printer uses all toner cartridges during the process.
In both cases, if any of the toner cartridges are low or empty, it may affect the printer's ability to perform any print job, including black and white prints.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
