Hi @Bloodymarynola,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand you’ve just completed the initial setup of your HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer, though the product was purchased approximately 1.5 years ago and stored until now. You're noticing that the black ink appears light or is not printing, even though the cartridges are sealed and in their original packaging.
While HP ink cartridges are factory-sealed for long-term storage, over time, they can become less effective due to:
- Ink settling or drying inside the nozzles
- Expired ink chemistry (especially past the warranty date)
- Temperature or humidity exposure during storage
If the cartridges have been stored for 1.5 years, especially outside recommended conditions (15–35°C / 59–95°F), performance may degrade — even if they are unopened.
Step 1: Run a Print Quality Diagnostic
- Open the HP Smart app on your iOS device
- Tap your printer > Print Quality Tools
- Select “Print Quality Report”
This will help identify if the black ink nozzles are clogged or underperforming.
Step 2: Use “Clean Printhead” Feature
- In the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings > Tools
- Choose “Clean Printhead”
- After cleaning, print another test page to see the improvement
If no change, run the Clean Printhead function a second time, but avoid repeating more than 3 times, as it can use up ink.
Step 3: Check Cartridge Installation
- Lift the scanner lid to access the cartridges
- Confirm the black cartridge clicks securely into its slot
- Make sure the protective plastic tape is removed from the cartridge before installation
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
