I bought an HP8210 2 years ago for home use. About a year ago I bought a new HP ink package (B,C,R,Y). The C ran out last week and when I put it in it says "older generation ink". How can this be? I bought the ink AFTER I bought the printer.
why doesn't this work? And what is HP going to do to fix it?

Welcome to HP Support Community, @kheight
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 printer is showing an “Incompatible Ink Cartridge” message, try the steps below to resolve it:
1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility
The HP 8210 typically uses HP 952 / 952XL or HP 956 (black) cartridges, depending on region.
Double-check that the exact cartridge model matches what your printer supports. If you purchased them online or from a third party, verify the region code as well.
2. Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause the printer to reject newer or updated cartridges.
Steps:
Go to the HP Support site.
Search OfficeJet Pro 8210.
Download and install the latest firmware.
Restart the printer after updating.
3. Check Ink Cartridge Expiry
Even newly bought cartridges can be old stock. Inspect the expiry or warranty end date printed on:
The box
The cartridge label
Expired cartridges may fail authentication and show compatibility errors.
4. Confirm the Cartridges Are Genuine
Original HP cartridges carry security seals and chipsets that are fully recognized by the printer.
Counterfeit or refilled cartridges often trigger the compatibility warning.
5. Clean Cartridge Contacts
Sometimes contacts are dirty or oxidized.
Power off the printer.
Remove the cartridge.
Gently wipe the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth.
Reinsert and restart the printer.
6. Reset the Printer
Perform a simple reset:
Turn off the printer.
Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
Reconnect and power it on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
