I’m just curious if you’re able to use cardstock paper on the Hp Deskjet 2842e printer in trying to make homemade paper invitations versus spending over $100 to have a company make them.

Welcome to the HP Community --

The printer supports Card Paper - Index paper to 110lb / 200 gsm.

Index paper is an ISO standard paper type.

The printer settings / specifications refer to this paper as "Card".

The printer supports HP Brochure Matte / HP Professional paper -- it MIGHT support Brochure Glossy though there is no mention of this print surface in the specifications.  HP Brochure / HP Professional paper is 180 GSM -- The paper can be used to create (for example) 1/2 fold cards.

See the Media Specifications later in this message.

=================

Paper Types

Cardstock, as generally defined by some paper manufacturers, is not supported.

For example --

Cardstock made from Cover Paper (and ISO standard paper type) is far heavier than is the paper supported by this printer.

=================================================

HP Card Paper -- an ISO standard known as Index paper is supported to 200 gsm.

"Heavy" paper, depending on where the term is found, might refer to Brochure / Professional paper (180 gsm).

"Plain paper, Thick" -- as long as the paper does not exceed the plain / card / index paper weight limitation of 200 gsm, might work as a Paper Type selection.

Photo Paper (a supported paper type to 300 gsm), is limited to selecting "Photo Paper" as the paper type in Tray and Paper, and in the print application or printer software.

IMPORTANT

DeskJet printers are considered economy / entry level printers.

Perhaps more challenging to the type of printing you want to do, entry level printer features are limited.

The DeskJet printer does not support automatic 2-sided printing.

Duplex Print OptionsManual (driver support provided)

Next,

The printer does not support Borderless printing and requires a larger margin along the bottom edge.

Printer - Margins

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important

DeskJet printers do not support Borderless

and

DeskJet printers require a larger margin along the bottom edge of the paper

These limitations impact how content is printed on paper.

This DeskJet printer requires a larger margin along the bottom edge (1/2 inch).

Borderless PrintingNo
Print Margin Bottom (A4)12.7 mm
Print Margin Left (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Right (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Top (A4)3 mm

There is no software, firmware, or alignment that changes the larger margin requirement.

The solution to "chopped off" is to keep all data inside of 1/2 inch / 12.7mm on the bottom edge.

This limitation includes all text, images, page numbers, footer information, cells, tables, lines, other notations, and all file types, too.

Create your original document with 12.7mm ( 1/2 inch ) margins.
