Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I own an HP3630.
I always receive cartridges from you via Instant Ink. The last black ink cartridge (63/302 65/304) constantly generates the error message "incompatible printer cartridge." This cannot be resolved by restarting the printer or any other means. Please provide support.
Best regards,
AE

Hi @Alex54a

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. Let’s go through precise steps to resolve the “incompatible printer cartridge” message on your HP DeskJet 3630 when using Instant Ink cartridges:

Step 1: Power Reset

  1. Keep the printer turned on.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord directly to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer back on if it does not power up automatically.

Step 2: Remove and Reinstall Cartridges

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Carefully remove both cartridges.
  3. Check that the protective tape on the cartridge contacts has been removed.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their slots until they click into place.
  5. Close the access door and check the display.

Step 3: Clean Cartridge Contacts

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove the cartridges.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge.
  4. Allow the contacts to dry completely.
  5. Reinstall the cartridges and power the printer back on.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

  1. On your Windows computer, open the HP App.
  2. Ensure the printer is connected.
  3. Navigate to printer settings and check for firmware updates.
  4. Install any available updates and restart the printer.

Step 5: Run Diagnose & Fix

  1. Open the HP App on your Windows computer.
  2. Select your printer.
  3. Go to “Printer Settings” and choose “Diagnose & Fix.”
  4. Allow the tool to run and apply any corrections automatically.

After completing these steps, the cartridge should be recognized correctly. If the message persists, repeat the cleaning and reinsertion process once more to ensure proper contact alignment.
