My 4632 printer will not accept the #61 black HP cartridge. I have tried all remedies for correcting the problem with no success. The printer will work in the single cartridge (color) mode. If a black cartridge is installed the printer will show the error message and the keypad does not work. When the black cartridge is removed the printer will go to the single cartridge printing and the keypad works. Is there a way to get the printer to accept a new black cartridge. I have already tried 3 new HP cartridges, cleaned the contacts, etc, etc,

Hi @SteveK610,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with the incorrect cartridge error on your HP Officejet 4632. Since you've already tried multiple new cartridges and cleaned the contacts, here are some additional steps to help troubleshoot the issue.
Check for Firmware Updates
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check this via the HP Smart app or the HP website.
Reset the Printer
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Reinstall the Cartridges
- Carefully remove the black cartridge and reinstall it.
- Make sure it is seated properly and that there’s no protective tape remaining on the cartridge.
Inspect the Cartridge Slot
- Look for any obstructions or damage in the cartridge slot where the black cartridge goes.
- Ensure that the contacts in the printer are clean and undamaged.
Run the Printer's Self-Test
- Sometimes, running a self-test or diagnostic can help reset any internal errors.
- Refer to the printer's manual on how to run a self-test.
Try a Different Black Cartridge
- Although you’ve tried three new cartridges, it might be worth trying a different brand (if possible) or checking if the cartridges are genuine HP cartridges.
Check for Error Codes
- If the printer displays any specific error codes along with the message.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
