I had a paper jam.  I removed the toner cartridge to access the jam.   I removed the paper.

When I went to re-insert the toner cartridge, it will not seat correctly.  It is raised about 1" above the proper position.   I had an old cartridge that I tested; same problem.   So I deduce the problem is with the printer not the cartridge.

I expect something needs to be flipped back in place.  I tried that, but that did not work.

In the toner cartridge cavity there is a black roller called the transfer roller. BAsed on the model and age it is likely that the retainer for that roller has broken and now the transfer roller is sticking up. Or it is possible that the arm that retracts the drive mechanism from the cartridge when you open the lid has failed. The transfer roller failure is terminal as the retainer is part of the body of the printer and not replaceable.

I think it is the arm that retracts the drive has failed.  A white roller is sticking into the cartridge area by about 3/8".  Can that arm be replaced?  If yes, at what cost? And what is the part #.

By the way, this printer is a champ.  I have had it for at least 25 years.  It has gotten light use, but went from Window 3.0 to 11.  I LOVE how reliable it has been.   Like a loyal pet, I would rather inject it with new life, rather than put it down.  So I will seriously consider getting this fixed.  My work around is to try to stick the wheel long enough to get the toner cartridge in place.
