Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My 254dw started printing in a very poor quality a few days ago. Calibration and cleaning both didn't help. Smoothly shaking the still half full (original HP) toners also didn't help. Tried different papers, no change. I upgraded the firmware to the latest a few days ago, but still no improvement. The colors are totally faded out, on the right side more than on the left, but in general unusable.

I was quite impressed with the print quality but now I am seriously disappointed since this printer seems to be broken and there's no way for me to get it fixed.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Turn off EconoMode in the print settings for computers with Windows.

  1. In the program you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print.

    The printer settings window opens.

  2. Select your printer from the Printer menu.

  3. Open the Properties dialog box.

Depending on the software program, the button might be Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.

  4. Click the Paper/Quality tab, and then clear the EconoMode check box in the Print Quality section.

I hope that helps.
