HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer
Other

I have the printer cartridge box with the tracking number corresponding to the last one I received in early August according to Instant Ink records.  However when I opened it tonight, it clearly had already been opened and the tri-color cartridge was missing.  That suggests to me that I have already installed it and, indeed I am almost sure that I have replaced the tri-color at least once since that date.  I found another cartridge laying on my printer stand and thought maybe that was from that shipment and I had opened it before I needed it since it was not in the foil package.  So I removed the empty one tonight and replaced it with that one, but it was obviously an empty one I had removed previously and not yet put in the recycling mailer.  I know that my printer communicates my need for cartridge replacement before I need it, but does it show exactly when I installed a new cartridge?  Obviously I have to wait for a new one to be delivered, but that means I will be doing some important printing in grayscale which doesn't make me happy.  By the way , I am running OS Sonoma 14.6.1.

Hi @cinbun1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating situation regarding your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer. Unfortunately, the printer does not have a feature to track or display the exact date and time when a cartridge was installed. However, you can check the printer's ink levels and the status of the installed cartridges through the HP Smart app or directly on the printer display.

Here are some steps you can take to manage the situation:

Check Ink Levels:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Select your printer from the dashboard.
  • Look for an option that shows ink levels to confirm the status of the tri-color cartridge.

Check Cartridge History:

  • While the printer may not provide installation dates, if you log into your HP Instant Ink account online, you can view your cartridge usage history, which might give you an idea of when you last replaced the cartridges.

Order Replacement Cartridges:

  • If you don’t have a spare tri-color cartridge, you’ll need to wait for the next shipment from HP Instant Ink. Make sure to keep an eye on your account for shipping updates.

Use Grayscale Printing:

  • As a temporary workaround, you can change your printing preferences to grayscale to allow you to continue printing until your new cartridge arrives.
  • To do this, go to Print Settings in the print dialog and select Grayscale or Black & White.

Recycling Empty Cartridges:

  • Ensure that you properly recycle the empty cartridges as soon as possible to keep your workspace organized and to prepare for future replacements.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Just wish shipping could be expedited!  BTW, I once received a color cartridge that didn't work, so that may be why I came up short.  Thank you for your time.
