My printer is printing the blues a lot brighter than i can see on my monitor, I cannot seem to be able to correct this.

Any advice to correct this would be helpful.

Thank you

Hi @sparkstwo

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for reaching out—and I’m really sorry your prints aren’t matching what you see on screen. That kind of color mismatch can be super frustrating, especially when the blues come out way more intense than expected.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help bring your prints closer to what you see on your monitor:

🎨 Steps to Correct Vivid Blues in Prints

Adjust Print Settings

  • When printing, click More Settings or Preferences in the print dialog.
  • Look for Color Options and set it to Manual or Custom.
  • Reduce Saturation slightly or switch to sRGB color mode if available.

Use HP Photo Paper

  • HP’s ink formulas are optimized for their own paper types.
  • Using HP Advanced Photo Paper or Premium Plus can help balance color output.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

  • Visit the HP ENVY Photo 6220 support page and install the latest firmware and full driver package.
  • This ensures your printer is using the most accurate color profiles.

Disable Color Correction in Software

  • If you’re printing from apps like Photoshop or Lightroom, make sure color management is handled by the application, not the printer.
  • In the print dialog, select “Let application manage colors”.

Run a Printhead Alignment

  • On the printer’s control panel or via HP Smart app, run a Printhead Alignment and Color Calibration.
  • This can help fine-tune how colors are laid down on the page.

You’re doing the right thing by trying to get this sorted, and I’m here to help every step of the way. Want to start with adjusting the print settings or checking for firmware updates together?

Let’s get those blues back in balance 💙🖨️.

For some reason I cannot find where the adjust print settings are located. I am using HP Advanced photo paper and the inks that you supply. I have done a check on the firmware and it says it is up to date also I cannot see where to run the printhead alignment from.

I guess I must be a bit thick or it is old age.

Kind regards

Thanks for troubleshooting I appreciate all your efforts.

Not at all—this stuff can be tricky, and you’re doing a great job navigating it. Let’s walk through everything step by step so it’s easy to follow and gets those colors behaving properly again. 😊

🎛️ How to Adjust Print Settings (Windows)

  1. Open the document or photo you want to print.
  2. Press Ctrl + P or go to File > Print.
  3. In the print dialog, click Printer Properties, Preferences, or More Settings (wording may vary).
  4. Look for a tab called Color, Advanced, or Features.
  5. Set Color Mode to Manual or Custom.
  6. If available, reduce Saturation slightly or switch to sRGB color space.

🧭 How to Run Printhead Alignment

You can do this either from the printer’s touchscreen or the HP Smart app:

📱 Using the HP Smart App

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Click your printer’s name or image.
  3. Go to Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools.
  4. Select Align Printheads or Align Printer.
  5. Follow the prompts—it will print a page and may ask you to scan it.

🖥️ From the Printer Control Panel

  1. Tap the Settings icon on the printer’s touchscreen.
  2. Go to Printer Maintenance.
  3. Select Align Printhead and tap Continue.

You’re already using the right paper and ink, which is fantastic. Once we tweak the settings and run the alignment, your blues should mellow out and match your screen more closely.

Let me know if you’d like help finding the HP Smart app or walking through the alignment live—I’m right here with you! 💙🖨
