This is EXACTLY what happened to me! I replaced 2 cartridges - which were the only 2 it said to replace. Then it said to replace the 3rd, and now the carrier won't move to let me replace it. It's the first time I've replaced the cartridges.
I've seen many other users post this error - I hope HP offers a solution soon!

@Kristink222, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I understand you are trying to replace the ink cartridges. It seems like the print carriage is stuck.
Perform the steps mentioned in this document - Carriage jam or E3 error
To know how to replace the ink cartridges, refer to - Replace HP inkjet printer cartridges
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Those suggestions did not work. There was no obstruction or carriage error, and I know how to replace ink cartridges - the carrier wouldn't move to allow me to do that, which is something that is occurring for MANY people based on this forum.
What worked for me was to restore the printer - not just unplug and replug it in, but to actually restore it and set it up as a new printer. Maybe that will work for others as well.

Kristink222, which restore did you choose? I'm having the same issue . I know this is software related. Once the latest firmware is installed, the application will not permit reinstalling it which I think might solve the issue, but don't know for sure. Thanks!

I honestly don't remember - sorry! I was so frustrated, so when I finally got the restore option, I just went for it! It reset the printer to factory settings and then I had to add as a new printer. It will show errors if you're enrolled in instant ink, but once you get it added to your network, it will eventually sync with instant ink
